History[]

In 2009, the first cases of the newly classified Green Flu began to be reported in the United States, with reports of people becoming much more aggressive with their brains not functioning properly, converting them into zombies. As time went on, the Civil Emergency and Defense Agency (CEDA) tried to take measures to protect the populace, setting up evacuation centres and safe zones across the country. Unfortunately, they could not keep up with how fast and erratic the virus was mutating, resulting in the birth of "Special" infected, mutations that had a trait that separated them from the regular zombies. The most physically imposing was dubbed the "Tank", due to its enormous size and strength. Efforts were made to try and capture a Tank by trapping it in a train car, which seemed to work for the most part. Unfortunately, being trapped in a narrow space with a gigantic mutated zombie didn't work out as well.

Personality[]

As a boss infected, the Tank is naturally one of the most dangerous foes for the Survivors to face, and are capable of wiping the entire group out if they are unprepared. Official depictions of the Tank portray it as a mindless but deadly brute, usually rushing in attempting to mow down its foes. The Tank cares little for collateral damage, as shown when it beats down other common infected in the intro to the first game, and wreaks havoc in the alley the Survivors lure it down.

Arsenal[]

  • Fists: With arms the size of tree trunks, the Tank is capable of punching its foes long distances. Its awesome strength allows it to punch around cars, dumpsters, forklifts, logs, and other environmental objects. The Tank is also powerful enough to break down safe room doors made of reinforced steel, as well as brick walls.
  • Rocks: The Tank will literally rip up the road and beat you to death with it. It can lift a large slab of the ground over its head and throw it a long distance.

Weaknesses[]

  • Can still be killed through regular gunfire - the more people shooting it at once, the slower it will move.
  • Once set on fire, it will burn until it dies, unless it puts itself out with water.
  • Isn't the most sneaky of Infected.
  • Still a mindless infected, and will rush head first into a fight without a plan.
  • Can be stumbled and off-balanced by propane tanks, oxygen tanks, and pipe bombs.
  • Vulnerable to the effects of Bile Jars, which will blind a Tank for a time and summon a horde to slow and whittle it down.
  • Takes a few seconds to taunt its victim if it connects with an attack.
  • Can die of frustration if it does not attack its opponents for a while.

Trivia[]

  • In the game's files, the Tank is referred to as "hulk", an obvious reference to the Marvel character of the same name.
  • In IGN's poll of All-Time Greatest Video Game Villains, the Tank placed 51st.
  • The Tank is one of two Special Infected to have three different models, the other being the Boomer.
