History[]

Cereza's very birth shook the natural order of the world, being a half-breed born from the forbidden marriage of a Lumen Sage, and an Umbran Witch. An ancient prophecy foretold that the child of such a union would bring about apocalyptic destruction, and as such, her parents were exiled from their respective clans. Cereza grew up an outcast among the Umbran Witches, and was blamed as the sole cause of the two former allied races going to war. However, against the Witches wishes, she was taught in the ways of their magic anyway, becoming one of the most powerful of her race by adulthood. After discovering that her Sage father Balder intended to use her power for malicious purposes, Cereza's friend Jeanne erased her memories, and sealed her at the bottom of a lake for 500 years; during this time, every Umbran witch except for Cereza and Jeanne themselves was hunted down and killed. Finally emerging in the modern world, and without knowledge of her past or power, she named herself Bayonetta and set out to find her homeland, slaying both the angels and demons that set out to oppose her. Her only clue, was her possession of the left of a pair of mystical treasured eyes, and the rumours of the right eye floating through the black market.

She eventually encountered Balder, as well as Jeanne, who was under the Sage's control. By sending a child Cereza from the past to the future to meet her adult self, Balder managed to create a time paradox that prevented her memories from being erased; the discovery of her power awakened the creator of the world, Jubileus, intent on destroying the world and beginning a new one in Balder's image. Ultimately, Bayonetta and Jeanne overpowered the Creator God, and prevented the universal calamity.

Unfortunately, the loss of the Lumen Sages resulted in an imbalance in the world, shifting in favour of darkness. The demons of Inferno, who the Witches used to keep in control, began to break free. After losing Jeanne's soul to Inferno, Bayonetta set out to rescue her, in the process becoming acquainted with the strange boy Loki, and learning much more about her past and her parents.

Personality[]

Bayonetta is calm, confident, and somewhat snarky. Somewhat like a diva, she loves dressing fashionably, and acting condescending to people in her presence, even friendly allies. By her own admission, she feels like a celebrity, and will mouth off with a colourful vocabulary at anything or anyone that annoys her. Her fighting style is sadistic and domineering, and she relishes inflicting pain on her enemies, often toying with them using suggestive banter in the process. Many of her attacks, movements, and even weapons of choice, use her body in a callous manner, giving her the overall air of a dominatrix. With enough taunting, she is even able to influence enemies into becoming enraged, and predictable.

There are times, however, when she can show genuine concern, such as when friends she cares about are in mortal danger. On the other end of the spectrum, she can also show absolute fury to people she despises, though the slights they commit have to be personally against her for her to care.
